What an agreeable series The Sarah Jane Adventures is.  Ostensibly aimed at kids, the show is sure enough of itself now in it's third season to have a story, The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith, with mostly just the cast and how Sarah's sudden relationship would affect them all.  Of course for Tour purposes there is one major point of difference, and that being the inclusion of the Doctor himself.  It was interesting to see how Tennant bounced off the kids (almost literally) and led them through.  When you consider just how little of him we as fans have seen of him since July 2008, it almost makes the stories which commence on November 15th (a Sunday… really?!) a little overwhelming.

Caps and images for The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith are now online.

Also be sure to check this space in the coming week, there may just be a massive site-wide update on the way.

We're negotiating uncharted territory over here at THT Worldwide this week.  What to do (other than watch of course) The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith.  Never before has the Doctor appeared in one of the spin-offs before, but since in practice SJA  doesn't quite fall under the purview of the site, the debate then becomes what to do with it?  The answer of obvious.  If the 2005 and 2007 Children in Need Specials are worthy of condieration of rthe site (which they certainly were), then The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith should also.

Therefore our promise (or Prenup as the title implies) will be to cover this story in the same vain as any other story from Doctor Who itself.  Images and caps will be posted over Halloween weekend.

Here at THT Towers we like to fancy ourselves as iconoclasts.  Still it is nice on occasion to see your own good taste ratified in other forums.  Notably in this case we're referring to DWM 413 and the Best Story EVER Poll conducted.  The favorite there, as here, is The Caves of Androzani.  The reasons for it's much deserved status are numerous and well discussed elsewhere, but even now it holds up, giving the fan those tell-tales chills which signify the special from the rest.  As for the rest of the results, there are the inevitable quibbles and disagreements, the most obvious of which is how post-2005 stories, such as The Empty Child can be chosen when they're only half of a larger story.  That's why we're fans I guess.

While we're tipping our collective caps to Caves, we're also doing something at Tour HQ we've seldom done before.  As this long, lean, Who-less stretch enters the home stretch, we're always thinking about ways to continue to grow Tour content, one that has a definite goal in mind.  Despite other signs on the site of lethargy or outright hibernation, we continue to amass images for the next site-wide update (timeline TBA) but in consideration of attempting to reach 100,000 images total for the site by the end of 2010, we are turning to you (yes YOU, and YOU and quite possibly you) for help in reaching this goal.  And here's the way in.

Screen caps.

Going through any of the Doctor's index pages show any number of gaps where a specific story has no, or very few, screen caps attached to it.  Should you have SC's for any of these stories in above average quality (at least 600×450 pixels in size) or would be willing to undertake capping these stories to help us fill in the gaps here at the Tour, we would be quite appreciative.  The person(s) doing the capturing would get credit for their work for the relevant pages (fair is fair, and make no mistake–it is work) as well as our warmest personal regards.  Such a deal!

Of course there are the inevitable caveats… namely that we reserve the right to edit, retouch (for color-correction, cropping, sharpening and general image improvement), or even delete any images for redundancy as we see fit.  But with that understood, we hope to be hearing from some of you soon.

For a traditionally slow time of year, the hits just keep on coming.  The release of a second trailer for The Waters of Mars gives us a chance to do something we haven't done for a while, post caps for not only the first trailer, a brief portion of which ran at the end of Planet of the Dead in April.  The second, longer trailer coincided with the Doctor Who panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2009.  As of November 16th, 2009, now that The Waters of Mars has aired these trailer caps have been withdrawn.

So here we are… quite late, but full of excitement for the resumption of production on a new Doctor Who season.  Here at the Tour we mark the occasion with a long, LONG overdue site update (actually a more of a confession digression.. the update has been posted for a while but we've been working on other site improvements) .  This update, while largely focused on Tennant and Eccleston, touches every corner of the site.  Check out The Master List for a complete overview.

We've also been at work burrowing away finding images for the 5th season, and normally don't post production images until after a story airs, but c'mon… These are the first images for the new crew, and we've assembled 325 images for their first few days on the job in this gallery.  It would be restating the obvious that there are spoilers (an especially appropriate term) to be discovered in going through these images.  But that won't stop you, will it?

As for the new look, we quite like the 1950's Ivy League graduate student vibe going on.  One which, if it holds, should also provide enough variation to wear well with the public.  The Tardis shell looks brand spankin' new and quite consciously harkens back to the 1960's in design touches.

This Tour update raises the overall image count to 69,200 — a 3500 image bump — with many, many other pix being improved upon, so jump on in and enjoy the pix.

d6-020Lost in the translation with the premiere of Planet of the Dead was a slight style revamp for images on story pages.  In short, slideshows are back.  Long time visitors will remember that slideshows have been around before, and annoyed more than a few in the process.  The implementation is better now, and most importantly optional, now being just a gentle gliding through episodes on any story page.  It should also be noted that navigation through images can also be simply done manually just by using the arrow keys on your keyboard.

Now for a bit of HTML help.  Something of a plea really,  The THT Brain Trust is being driven batty by the inability since the move to a WordPress-style blog for our front-end to see header icons on any story index page.  The images, used for navigation, are being properly pointed to on story index pages but aren't showing up in any display variation we've thrown at the site.  Anyone who can help solve this puzzler will earn…. our warmest personal regards.
