Happy 39th Anniversary to Doctor Who!  Still looking good in the 21st century carried by the hearts of those who fell for what it was all about, and knew how good was it was and can continue to be.  This site, which not coincidentally turned five years young on November 23rd, is one of many which in a small way continue to carry the flame.  Thank you to everyone through the years who have helped by their suggestions, compliments (and complaints), and web hosting.  It's a very different site from when it started, and one we thought had some novelty.  We enjoyed posting whole seasons at a time, and ran through the entire series twice this way, but have since moved to a permanent display format which we hope everyone approves of.

We'll guess what…. The Tour has now reached 10000 images!  I know the tension was unbearable but we managed it.  In fact for the morbidly curious, we have set aside a page for the 10000th image in the Tour.  Otherwise it's pretty much business as usual except that we are setting up a mailing list for the first time for those who wish to stay abreast of changes in The Tour.  Sign up for it here…

Another update in the books vaulting the score ever closer to 10000 images getting the overall total well over 9800.  Of note with this update is the new distinction between the miscellaneous images for each Doctor and what (for lack of a better term) we are calling 'Who Not Who' for images of Doctor Who actors clearly taken out of their respective era or in other roles.

We've had a lot of fun seeking these images out of late, but noted that Miscellaneous sections for each Doctor were bursting at the seams (in Colin Baker's case approaching 200 images) so this should make this a little easier to navigate.  Entry to the 'Who Not Who' section are available through each Doctor own summary page below.

November 23rd is approaching fast!  As previously stated we're attempting to get past 10000 images by the time we hit November 23rd, which is not only the 39th Anniversary for the program but the 5th for the Tour.  If you have some images which you would like to contribute, answer our clarion call.  Thanx in advance for your help. (We've already had a few helpers contribute… thanx!)  All of the e-mail links on the site are working by our analysis, so feel free to contribute.

A small bit of the biographical/historical.  I have been a Doctor Who fan since 1981, when showings on Madison's WHA forever caught my attentions.  As I was a typically destitute college student, the way I relived Doctor Who, before VCRs that is, was to audio tape them.  It was a wonderfully evocative way to embed the series into the subconscious. Just listen to The Caves of Androzani on audio and see if that doesn't provoke a reaction!   That's why I have had such a great time of late catching up to the amazing work Big Finish have been doing with Davison, Baker, McCoy and especially McGann.  Radio drama is a particularly English medium, and they do it exceptionally well.  Thank you from a grateful fan!

Onto a slightly more mundane matter.  I have received several E-mails which boiled to their essence say 'Love the site– hate the pop-ups.'  And while I can't disagree, there's not much to be done about the pop-ups either, unless you use a pop-up stopper of some sort.  My plug of choice is Pop-UP Stopper.  It certainly works here at the Tour.

Here's where visitors to the site can help us as this new phase of the Tour takes hold.  With nearly 9000 images there are about 30000 links spread throughout the whole of the site.  We aren't going to pretend that all of them work properly, though we did our best.  Help keep us honest by giving us feedback and we'll set about correcting it.

We also apologize for the enormous number of pop-up links which will undoubtedly dog visitors as they move around on the site.  To get 900MB of server space this is what we had to move towards.  If you have a pop-up killer that works (which I've never found personally) then use it in good health.

Now a word or two about the down sides of moving to a permanent display format.  It's obvious when I peruse other sites when they have borrowed somewhat extensively from this site.  Fine.  After all this site in the beginning was intended to be a Doctor Who resource and this shouldn't be different now.  But please please PLEASE do not directly link to pages, aside from the main entry.  There are ways to root this out, and in the end will only cause more work as these links will assiduously be moved to avoid this problem.  Nuff said.

Welcome to Version 3.0 of Doctor Who’s Tragical History Tour.

I'll be the first to admit that I hate re-designs.  I'm nowhere near as good at HTML as I used to be, and what I see that I like out there I can't find the time or motivation to implement.  Stalemate.  Thus despite the fact that the site has over gone as major overhaul in content, it looks pretty much the same.  Nevertheless we hope that you approve of the changes.

And what might these changes be exactly?  Nothing less than the entirety of the contents of the Tour are now available at one time on the site.  Roughly 900 MB of server space has been secured for this purpose, but not all of the old content is making the switch.  Gone are rotating Season-by-Season galleries from The Cloister Room, the mystery of The Matrix, and the request section The Eye of Orion (after all if everything is here now, requests should no longer be necessary).  But The Randomizer remains and a new section, The H.A.D.S. debuts which will continue to offer different journeys through the site's image content.  The Panopticon will appear on an occasional basis as events and interest warrant.

While updates will be less frequent owing to other commitments,  returning visitors can be kept up on new images for the Tour when the appropriate pages are updated. (not available yet).

In this third phase of The Tour each Doctor gets his own wing, and then some:

Welcome to 2002 from the Tour!  We're moving to double features each month with new showing in The Cloister Room and The Panopticon.  The second round of the Tour is now officially in the home stretch here in the New Year, so look for changes to these pages at the conclusion of the current phase of the Tour in or around April 1st.

Wondering at the lack of updates for The Eye of Orion lately?  Simple… No one's asking!  Before the Tour begins a new variation of it's existence in the spring, visit the The Eye and make a request.

The Arc of Infinity has changed again!  Now all of the Tour's Colin Baker images are available by looking at Mindwarp.

Just for grins I'll give Tour regulars an insight into the current programs (U.S.) this fans makes a point of watching week-to-week: (in no particular order)

JAG
24
The West Wing
Law and Order (original)
CSI
Earth: Final Conflict (it's losing me though)
Enterprise
The McLaughlin Group

Intrigued??  Scared??  Think of how I feel..
