It's a Tragical History Tour Tradition (and the Matrix Mutterings before that for those who remember it) back to 1995.   Christmas and Doctor Who at first blush wouldn't seem to have much in common, and for the most part they don't, with one significant exception.  The season at hand also affords us here at the Tour a chance to break a little from our usual routines, away from image galleries into more of a storytelling mode, and for good reason.  The Feast of Steven is on display in The Panopticon.

Special thanx to Edward Cowling who has kindly allowed us to incorporate his high quality captures into the Tour.  Some of these were on display for the story Vengeance on Varos in The Cloister Room and The Five Doctors in the Arc of Infinity.  If you can also be of assistance in sharing similar SC's, you can contact us here.

Welcome Tour faithful.   The Tour has been around as a web presence for almost four years now, and as a personal project (knowingly or unknowingly) for more than six.  But as Doctor Who web sites of some quality continue to be harder to come across, it's important that they evolve to keep fresh, and so we're undertaking a small survey of our readership to ask what the next step for the Tour should be. Here are the options our brain-wizards are offering…

  • Continue the Tour in its present form as a monthly series of rotating image galleries and also continue Randomizer and Eye of Orion sections for special requests.  Vote here
  • Move to a permanent display format where all of the Tour's content will be accessible as the recent 'whole Doctor' sections have been. Most of the special sections (Randomizer & Eye of Orion) would disappear and the Tour's content would be housed on free servers (with all of the associated pop-ups).   Vote here
  • Wrap it up. It's been a good run. So long and thanks for all the fish.  Vote here

The E-mail links that pop-up will be directed to a special E-mail account set up for the purposes of the vote, but please feel free to offer other comments about what the Tour could and should be doing at the same time.  We look forward to your input.  In any event any changes would take place come April 2002, when the current run in the Panopticon concludes and the Tour has had a complete run through the series for a second time.  A few more questions will follow in the coming weeks and months… but thanx again for your input.

We've been captured!  After careful thought and consideration, we have decided to begin accepting high-quality screen captures for the Tour.   Screen captures have their place, indeed many of the most potent images from the series can only be represented by using video screen captures, but only now, has the quality of images taken from digital sources (DVD's) with newer capture software come along sufficiently for this type of consideration.  Indeed the recent quality of these captures rivals, after suitable re-touching and color correction, many of the better images already in the Tour.

In accordance with this change, we are looking for someone to assist the Tour's brain wizards in obtaining these SC's from DW DVD releases (especially the 1996 TVM which is out as a region 2 release).  Anyone who can supply help these for us both in quality and quantity will of course receive proper credit on the site as well as our warmest personal regards (what were you expecting, a Ronco Pocket Fisherman?).  If you are interested you can contact us here.

It's official.  The Tour will be off the air (in terms of updates–not for being globally inaccessible) from July 22nd through approximately August 2nd while the brain wizards are on vacation.  The Cloister Room for the 19th Season will likely be a day or two late off of this and E-mail addresses will be changing so please be patient while waiting for mail to be returned.

The Web of Fear has regenerated into Carnival of Monsters , where all of the Tour's Pertwee images are currently on display.

Welcome to Version 2.0 of Doctor Who’s Tragical History Tour.

My goodness!  What a positive response to the layout changes.  Traffic is up, and so is the picture count in the Tour, having vaulted over 7000 images in overall image content.  Look at The Score for more details.

The long-since-announced re-design of the site has finally arrived and, shock of shocks, it looks suspiciously like the old design. After several attempts to spruce it up and feeling that the results we’re less than satisfactory, I’ve settled for updating the old frameset to produce a smoother look. Site redesign, as I'm sure many readers will attest, can be a frustrating experience, but it should be remembered that the primary purpose of the site is to share and display pictures which depict the History of Doctor Who. As such, territory on the desktop becomes valuable, and shouldn't be frittered away on largely irrelevant scenery chewers. To that end we should announce that the site is now fully intended to be viewed at resolutions 800×600 and above

In addition you will notice things are, literally, flashier, than before, as this site has fully embraced the possibilities, not to mention the editing flexibility, of flash animation.  If you don't have flash capability, you'll need to access the site this way.  At the same time we're attempting to move away from more of the java-based applets which slowed page loading.  Hopefully you'll approve of the results.

As promised The Space Museum has metamorphosed into The Web of Fear, where all of the Tour's Troughton images are currently on display.  W hope you like it.

The Tour presently forms six parts, all of which are rotated on a regular basis:

  • The Cloister Room. Our "Season in Review" gallery. Every Month stills from a season of the program will be displayed. Season 16 is now up for review.. UPDATED MAY 1ST
  • The Panopticon. Each month we'll pick a theme for a special themed set of stills, sometimes topical, other times downright silly.  In May it's Douglas Adams in Memoriam… UPDATED MAY 15TH
  • The Eye of Orion.   Our request gallery. UPDATED APRIL 1ST
  • The Randomizer.  A random story on display each week. UPDATED EVERY MONDAY
  • The Matrix.  See if you can solve the mystery of the Matrix. UPDATED APRIL 1ST
  • The Web of Fear.  All of the Tour's Troughton images in one place! UPDATED MAY 20TH

Frequent visitors will have no doubt noticed some minor cosmetic changes gong on around the fringes lately.  I've been advised that the applet above hasn't been working in Netscape.  We're looking for a fix.  By the way thanx for everybody for your continued patronage as we are perilously close to turning 20000 visits since site inception.

We're working on something special for Hartnell fans.  Stay tuned for further details.  The Tour forges forward further into the territory of ol' Scarf Boy, Tom Baker as the lucky 13th season is on display in The Cloister Room.   Meanwhile in The Panopticon we are looking at the third installment of Paul McGann pictures.  Don't forget to visit the 'sister' site The MUM Page.

The Tour presently forms three parts, all of which will be rotated on a regular basis:

  • The Cloister Room. Our "Season in Review" gallery. Every Month stills from a season of the program will be displayed. Season 13 is now up for review..
  • The Panopticon. Each month we'll pick a theme for a special themed set of stills, sometimes topical, other times downright silly. In January it's Storm Warning Ahead!…

The Tour forges forward in the Pertwee era with the most anonymous of his seasons, the ninth, in The Cloister Room.   Meanwhile in The Panopticon we are looking at the latest addition to 'The Century Club.'
