Been awhile (okay a month!) since there's been notable site activity but there's lots burbling behind the scenes. We're amassing the largest site update in the History of the Tour, making an attempt to clear out every non-Tennant image that has been building up (in some cases for over a year!) But just as it seems we're getting close to the end of the pile, another wonderful source presents itself and must in turn be incorporated. Pity the Gelph. Still we'll be doing our level best to push this out by the end of August and then on towards a rather significant site anniversary in the autumn.
With a tremendous third season now complete, and the week-to-week discipline that goes along with it, we can now turn our attention to other aspects of the site, one of which a long overdue update for the Tour screensaver, including archiving previous Tour screensavers for the first time.
Additionally, we put a small Tennant-only image update in place, about 300 images. We've got a much larger anyone-but-Tennant update coming later in the summer.
This year, now that the season is well underway, we're going to display a dynamic ratting system for the stories of the 2007 season, based on nothing more than the ends of our nose. Still let's see how these assessments line up with yours.
2007 Dynamic rankings:
- Human Nature
- The Family of Blood
- Utopia
- Blink
- The Sound of Drums
- The Lazarus Experiment
- Daleks in Manhattan
- Gridlock
- Smith and Jones
- Last of the Time Lords
- Evolution of the Daleks
- The Shakespeare Code
- 42
It's all subjective of course, and most of it relegated to shades of relevance, so don't take it too seriously. Something had to finish last for instance.
Any shocks there? Thought not.
How do assess Last of the Time Lords? As the end of a trilogy? Against The Parting of the Ways and Doomsday? Or simply on it's own merits? Thats' the conundrum. The feeling here is that it was just alright, let down by too much (inevitable) expectation from The Sound of Drums, as well as the Doctor's proper re-introduction to the story.
We wish Martha would be continuing on full-time, as she has been simply fantastic. The season as a whole is an all-timer, rivalling the 7th, 13th, 14th, and 18th in consistent quality.
One last note regarding the Christmas Special, if the 'companion' turns out to be Celine Dion, Check Please!
Caps and images for Last of the Time Lords are now online. We'll also have follow-up for our off-season plans later this week.
Epic storytelling. Seldom has Doctor Who seemed so grand in scale. Of course we have no idea where it's all going, and we might revise our initial impressions for The Sound of Drums until next week's finale, but we can't wait! Images and caps for The Sound of Drums are now online.
We're leveraging the major reveal from Utopia by slightly revamping The Master List. It's easy for forget for long term fans that newer viewers might not know how far back this history goes. Well that's where The Tour comes in.
